Eco-Conscious Beauty Brands to Liven Up this Holiday Season

Eco-Conscious Beauty Brands to Liven Up This Holiday Season

–Alexa Smith

It’s the most wonderful time of the year…or so we say. On top of shopping, wrapping, baking, cleaning, cooking, decorating, the list goes on…how can we possibly be expected to look our holiday best and still remain sustainable?

Worry not! We’ve got you covered!

We’ve taken a good, hard look at the beauty brands out there, and have chosen our favorites. When it comes to eco-friendly, we’re talking about products that are not only good for you, but good for the planet, too. It’s one thing for a brand to declare its eco-consciousness with all-organic, vegan, paraben-free products, but to us at Verte Luxe, packaging and the product’s eco-footprint should be considered as well. So, here’s to a very happy and healthy holiday and a sustainable new year with these beauty brands you’ll be proud to use!

Axiology

Branded as “100% evil-free,” Axiology manufactures bold, vibrant colors guaranteed not to harm you, animals or the planet. All of their lipstick tubes are created from aluminum and can be recycled at the end of their life. Their products are also packaged in a recycled-paper box that can either be recycled or composted.

Axiology products are vegan, gluten free, soy free, palm oil free and cruelty free, and the company often donates to local humane societies, animal sanctuaries and The Orangutan Foundation.

Elate Cosmetics

The main draw to Elate Cosmetics, on top of their vegan, toxin-free and cruelty-free products, is their packaging. Packaged in bamboo and stainless steel, all Elate products are either compostable or recyclable.

Stainless steel is becoming increasingly popular in beauty products because it’s theoretically 100% recyclable and its long-term life makes it ideal for refillable products, like Elate. Yes, you heard me right. Once you run out of blush, eyeshadow or foundation, you can recycle the empty stainless-steel tin, and order (or, ideally, buy in-store to reduce the product’s carbon footprint) a new pressed tin that fits perfectly into place because each bamboo compact has a small magnet embedded in it for easy replacement.

Elate believes in empowering their customers to make good, healthy, sustainable choices when it comes to their daily beauty routine, and they make it as easy as they can for you to do just that.

Proof that sustainable beauty can be luxurious. Kjaer Weis ensures the highest-quality products free of parabens, synthetic fragrances, silicones and petrochemical emulsifiers. Almost all of KW’s products are certified natural or certified organic, and all come in stainless steel, refillable containers housed in recyclable packaging.

If you’re not convinced, Kjaeer Weis is 100% transparent with the ingredients used in their products, listing them all right here on their website. As an award winner in mascara, cream blush, facial oil and eyeshadow, KW offers a sophisticated palette of bold reds, soft neutrals and muted, smokey shades if you’re feeling adventurous. Free from animal testing and mostly organic, KW products are sure to please, impress and last!

RMS

RMS, named after creator Rose-Marie Swift, also stands for “Real Makeup Secrets” and “Right Mental State,” both are perfect because RMS’s beauty secrets will bring you peace of mind knowing their non-toxic, all-organic makeup will not only be safe to use, but is also assured to heal and nourish your skin.

All RMS products are free of synthetic preservatives, synthetic vitamins, GMOs and harmful chemicals, vowing to keep the ingredients of their products raw and in their natural state to ensure the medicinal properties are kept alive for maximum healing.

Additionally, packaging of RMS products is minimal and all of it is either reusable, recyclable or biodegradable. Most products come in a glass jar with a stainless-steel lid, both of which have a 100% recycling rate. However, we were particularly bummed this year when their eyeshadows were released in plastic. Boo!

RMS supports the natural and long-term beauty of their customers with all-organic, cruelty-free ingredients, promoting hydration, health and radiance.

Tata Harper

Cruelty free and nontoxic, Tata Harper creates organic, handmade products on their farm in Vermont, highly infused with an abundance of ingredients for maximum results. Primarily a skincare company, though still offering natural makeup options, Tata Harper vows that extra special care and attention goes into every one of their products.

All of their items are free from GMOs, toxins, fillers, synthetic chemicals and artificial colors and fragrances, and the majority of their packaging is glass. The little plastic they do use is derived from corn rather than petroleum, and all cardboard packaging is either made from 100% post-consumer materials or recycled paperboard, and is sealed with The Sustainable Forestry Initiative label to show the package materials were responsibly sourced.

Opt for refillables

Many of the above makeup and skincare brands we’ve mentioned specifically because they offer easy refills. Especially when it comes to plastic.  Not every region can recycle plastic as easily as glass or aluminum so we encourage you to make the effort to reuse your containers as often as possible. Reduce and reuse do come before recycle, in case you forgot.  Happy Holidays, Eco- Beauties!
