03 Mar Celebrating World Wildlife Day March 3, 2019
Since its inception in 2013, World Wildlife Day has grown to become the most important global annual event dedicated to the protection of wildlife in the world. This year’s theme is “Life below water: for people and planet”.
Billions of people around the world depend on marine and coastal biodiversity for their livelihoods. From the food that we eat, to the vacations we enjoy, to the employment it provides us, we depend on marine life culturally and spiritually. It is our duty to help to protect it.
Our oceans are deeply affected by pollution, climate change and over sourcing of marine life. “40% of the ocean” is in direct threat. This year is the first World Wildlife Day dedicated to Marine Life.
What better way to celebrate March 3rd than to help raise awareness to protect these endangered species and to help to save our oceans. Donating to organizations like The World Wildlife Foundation, Oceana, The Ocean Conservancy and Heal the Bay is a great start. Participating in a local beach cleanup is another way. Even a simple share on social media and using hashtags like #WorldWildlifeDay #LifeBelowWater #peopleandplanet #marinespecies helps.
Most importantly, stop with the single use plastics! Those plastics go straight into our landfills and oceans, breaking down into micro-plastics, which are killing our marine life.
Celebrate World Wildlife 2019 Today and #DoOneThing to raise awareness and help to save our oceans and marine life. Go to https://www.wildlifeday.org/ for more information.
